GEAR coffee table

The Gear series draws on the brutalist architecture of the 1950s, with its geometric forms and raw concrete surfaces. It reworks that architecture into furniture while setting out to soften its otherwise severe expression. The grooves in the legs, for instance, throw shadows that shift with the light falling on them, adding a dynamic element.

The Gear coffee table is made principally of raw concrete, as brutalist buildings were decades ago. To soften the severity of the material, the concrete is pigmented, which adds nuance and a tactile quality. Each table is made by hand through a nine-stage process. In the final stage every table is painted by hand, which makes each one a piece of its own.
